Hi, I found you through Threads and signed up for your newsletter last week. Not even gonna comment on the Christmas songs. I personally see Lethal Weapon as much more of a Christmas movie than Die Hard but I also don’t get into arguments about it, especially since I know people who hate them both. If you’re interested in something new I would recommend The Holdovers which just came out this year. It’s damn near perfect, as a movie, and as a Christmas movie. But I base what I consider a Christmas movie more on tone, theme, and feeling than simply taking place at Christmas and having a song (or two) and Santa.

I can’t remember if I mentioned Lethal Weapon but that’s written by Shane Black, who uses Christmas as a backdrop for almost all of his movies. LW, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, A Long Kiss Goodnight, The Last Boy Scout, Iron Man 3, and on and on. I love his movies! I get the tonal/thematic thing, but aside from the Xmas tree stand at the beginning and the decorations at the end, how does the LW plot have a Christmas theme?! I guess if you consider a suicidal guy finding family and a will to live it’s sort of like It’s A Wonderful Life! I still think Xmas is more of a character in Die Hard. I haven’t seen The Holdovers yet but hear it’s good. Thanks for subscribing!
