Blogs are dead. Long live newsletters!

It’s been a long time since I blog and rolled.

If you found me on social media, you may not know that Dad and Buried started as a blog. There was no Instagram. There were no reels. There was no TikTok (in many ways there still is no TikTok - but you can follow me!). There was no Facebook page, there was no Twitter, there was no Huffington Post best of lists. There was just a blog.

There is no longer a blog.

I mean, there is (dadandburied.com FTW!), but no one reads it, and no one (ahem: me) writes it. I used to post 2-3 times a week without fail! If you visit it now, the last post is ancient, and it was probably something I first posted on Instagram.

A few years ago, Facebook shifted the way they drove traffic to external sites (i.e., they stopped doing it), and my numbers plummeted. So I went where the people are: social media!

I still love to write.

Unfortunately, social media doesn’t really put a premium on writing. Video is where it’s at these days, and if you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably noticed I’m giving it my best college try. Sometimes I even nail it! But it’s not my forte, unfortunately. So I decided to start this newsletter. We’ll see how it goes.

Same shit, different platform.

Don’t worry, I’m still gonna be doing the same stuff I do on social, and did on my blog, and do at home (much to Mom and Buried’s chagrin). I’m way too old to change now. So if you like that stuff, you’ll probably like this newsletter too!

(Plus, it’s free - and some/most of it always will be. But there may come a time when I have something of actual value to share, and if that time comes, maybe it will be worth paying a little bit. Don’t hate me because I’m broke!)

Life Update

In the future, whatever is going on in my life will probably be the main focus of the newsletter, but today I wanted to explain myself. I HATE explaining myself but what are ya gonna do?

As for my life, hoping to have some fun news soon (get excited!), but right now all that’s really going on is Dry January - through 19 days, I’ve had zero beers and one bourbon; hooray for me! I’ve also been drinking TONS of water, which has increased my water intake from zero to TONS and my daily bathroom trips from several to TONS.

Moving on to the rest of the clan, my 12-year-old hates middle school with a passion, my just-turned-7yo is as happy-go-lucky as ever, and my wife has thus far survived January without breaking any ribs, so everything’s coming up Milhouse!

(Except for my 12yo, who is hating 7th grade life.) (And also the fact that we need a new car.) (And the Dolphins flamed out, as usual.) (And we may be getting a Peloton.) (And I’ve been going back to the office a few times a week.) (And there are still two weekends of Dry January to weather.)
